If you’ve always wanted to score a free MTA ride, then this new program was made just for you. Starting in September, five local bus routes will be free to the public. Each of the five boroughs will have a route. The initiative aims to encourage more people to take public transportation. It also hopes to track ridership trends and the impact it has on low-income communities and commercial corridors. Still, some commuters are not sure this will help the cash-strapped MTA long-term.
